December 2025
Our most recent COSS was completed by an independent consulting firm, C.H. Guernsey & Company. Upon completion of the study, it was determined that adjustments are needed for our residential, general service, commercial, and industrial rate classes to better align rates with the actual cost of service.
These rate adjustments will take effect with our January 2026 billing for residential, general service, commercial, and industrial members.
For example, our largest rate class, residential single phase, will see an overall increase of .50 cents per 1,000 kilowatt hours.
As an electric cooperative, SBEC operates for the benefit of its members. Unlike investor-owned utilities, we do not operate for profit. Any rate changes are carefully considered to ensure fairness, reliability, and the long-term financial health of the cooperative while keeping our members’ best interests at the forefront.
Below is the rate card outlining the restructuring for each rate class. Members with questions are encouraged to contact their local SBEC branch office for more information.
