2023 Scholarship Recipients

Something cooperatives pride themselves on are their 7 governing principles, one being education to membership. SBEC is proud to assist High School seniors in furthering their education to a vocational school or college. Each year, SBEC's goal is to award thirteen $2500 scholarships to students across our service territory.

SBEC has two scholarships available to graduating seniors who reside in our service territory. One is a $2500 Academic Scholarship and the other is the $2500 Curtis Wood Memorial Scholarship for students attending Prairie View A&M in the fall.

SBEC also helps promote the Texas Rural Electric Women’s Association scholarship. TREWA was formed to educate and create interest and understanding of the rural electric cooperative systems and issues among the members and general public and to present a unified front for the member-owned electric cooperatives as they improve the quality of life in rural Texas. The Texas Rural Electric Women's Association (TREWA) is a statewide organization dedicated to providing scholarships for its members' children. However, the name is a little misleading. Although it was created for and continues to be run by women, in reality, many men are also members.

TREWA offers Twenty (20) scholarships for the amount of $1500 each and will be awarded to CURRENT TREWA members or their children.

Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors, full-time college students or adults, who have been accepted as a full-time student to attend any accredited college, university, junior college, community college, trade/technical school or business school of their choice.

The scholarship funds come from the small ($10 per year) membership dues, as well as a raffle and arts/crafts sale at the Texas Electric Cooperatives annual meeting each year.

TREWA Scholarships are due in March. Please come back for updated scholarship form in the spring of 2024.

Scholarship forms and TREWA membership applications are available from:
