San Bernard Electric Cooperative will hold an essay contest for the area high school students and will award two expense paid trips to Washington, D.C.. The students will only need to bring money for souvenirs, camera film, snacks, etc... Essay contest winners will join other winners from across the state of Texas for an unforgettable and exciting tour of our nation's capitol June 10 through June 18, 2010.
1. To be eligible for the contest, students must be in the 10th or 11th grade.
2. Parent(s) or Guardian(s) must be a current member(s) of San Bernard Electric Cooperative and reside in the SBEC service territory.
3. Submit a 500 word essay/biography about YOU. Yes, we want to know about YOU.
Please include the following in your application.
Please write the essay/biography to reflect the following paragraphs: 1st Paragraph: reflects you and your family. 2nd Paragraph: reflects you and your school. 3rd Paragraph: reflects you and your community. 4th Paragraph: reflects you and America/The USA 5th Paragraph: explains why you should be chosen to represent San Bernard Electric Cooperative, your ISD or school, or your community.
Also include a letter of reference from: 1) Your high school principal. 2) Your clergyman or other community leader.
4. The essay should be in 12 point type and double spaced.
5. Each student entering the contest must attach a separate title page and provide all the information shown on the attached "Sample Title Page".
6. Mail or deliver the essay to:

7. Essays must be received by SBEC no later than 5:00pm on Monday, March 01, 2010.
8. Essays will be judged on originality, composition, neatness, grammar and the ability to ACCURATELY FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.
9. Two students will be selected to represent San Bernard Electric Cooperative on the tour in June. One alternate will be selected, in the event that one of the winners is unable to attend.
